Drury Study Spots!

If you love school work as much as I do, you’ve probably already picked your favorite campus spots to crack open your textbook, laptop, and notes to study! Whether you have homework assignments, a fatty test, or a group project, you must be oh-so wise about selecting your area of studying.

When I study, I like to put books on my head, too.

1. Olin Library:

A building filled with the typical resources: books, PCs, tutors, etc. You are free to sit at a cubicle and work alone, at a table where “quiet” chatter is permitted, in a private room (which I can assure you is NOT soundproof and usually too warm or too cold), or in a comfy couch where more Zzzz’s than A’s are usually earned. The library is mostly a quiet and strict environment, and allows me to get my homework done in a somewhat orderly and timely fashion. It’s biggest issue: it closes at 12am. And there’s no messing around when it’s closing time: The workers flicker the lights 50 thousand times at 11:45pm to remind you to get your butt moving. I am currently writing this in Olin, and my friend Tiffany who is sitting across from me just said: “This library, I feel like it’s always going to fall down.” So I guess that could be another potential downside as well?

2. Your own room:

This environment can probably foster more creativity and spunk when doing work (I know my room is crammed with pictures, plants, bright colors, and a window overlooking the volleyball court). When I’m blogging, this is my safe haven, WORK GETS DONE! When I’m trying to write my Comm and Ethics paper; however, I end up watching Jenna Marbles videos, Pinteresting, or gossiping with my roommate.

3. Springfield Hall: Computer labs

The 2 PC and 2 Mac Labs rock because they are open 24/7! I usually find architecture students building their… whatever… on their special software, or the graphic designers creating…whatever… on their special software. The only problem: there is hardly any desk space, and I really enjoy throwing my crap everywhere. I always have food, a water bottle, papers, laptop, phone, calculator, communication binder, and planner near me. There is no preconceived “rule” of quietness, so it’s also a little less strict of an atmosphere than Olin.

4. Your department building (Science Center, Architecture building):

Hardcore kids doing their hardcore stuff. You can’t get in without a special pass or code or permission, so if you like to fool around while studying, don’t even give these places a try.

5. Outside

Who are you kidding, you can’t study- let alone concentrate- outside! Either you’re wanting a tan or attention from the passerbyers or bystanders. I’d like to pose the question: what are you doing with your life?
